Don't miss the celebration...
October 14th 2-5 pm at Minute Man National Historical Park: Celebrate conservation in action and the 50th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Act!
A special invitation to municipal officials, committees, nonprofit and friends groups, activists and volunteers
Please join the River Stewardship Council and conservation partners on October 14th to celebrate regional conservation in action. In October we join people across the nation to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, and kick-off the 20 year anniversary of your local Wild and Scenic River, the Sudbury Assabet and Concord. Municipal officials and committees, local nonprofit and friends groups, environmental professionals, activists, and volunteers are invited for a special reception at Minute Man National Historical Park in Concord. Enjoy specially planned tours and activities highlighting past and current conservation efforts, refreshments and raffles, culminating in remarks by special guests and closing ceremony. More details coming in September!
THANKS to everyone who participated in the 17th annual RiverFest in June, a weekend long event celebrating the Sudbury, Assabet and Concord Wild and Scenic Rivers.
Thank you to this year's event sponsors:
This year is a special year, as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Act, the National legislation passed in 1968 that made protection of these Rivers possible.
The weekend featured more than 30 events in nine communities, free and open to all who wanted to experience the rivers. In the MetroWest area, from Framingham to Lowell, events were hosted on and along the rivers highlighting all the things that make these rivers so special. The offerings were diverse, suitable for younger and older people, those who are adventuresome and want to be on the water, as well as those who enjoy history, the arts, or a scenic stroll along the river banks. There were boat rides, bird watching walks, and canoe trips, as well as historical reenactments, art activities, and music. Kids enjoyed events allowing them to explore the river banks or got an up close look at some wildlife.
Thank you to all of the partners and volunteers who planned and ran the local events. We could not have done this without you!
And plan on our Riverfest weekend next year - Father's Day Weekend! Interested in running an event as part of the weekend? Interested in sponsoring the event with food, supplies, and/or volunteers? Contact Sarah Bursky at
